i’d rather burn

i’d rather burn lyrics

Intro

Steam on the tile
Door still swinging slow
Water running mean
I let it go

Verse 1

He left a shape
In the sinklight stain
I pulled the tap
Till it bit my skin

Salt in my palm
Like a little prayer
I let it fall
And I stayed right there

The tub went red
In my head, in my chest
I sat in the burn
Just to feel his name

Pre-Chorus

If I stay too clean
I start to fade
So I keep the ache
Like a wedding ring

Don’t say he’s gone
Don’t say move on
I need this hurt
To prove I’m real

Chorus

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than be forgot

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than go cold

Verse 2

I hit repeat
On the sound of the drain
Then shut it off
When the silence came

Towel on the door
Like a white flag hung
I press my face
To the mirror’s edge

Salt on my tongue
And the water still
Hisses at me
Like it knows his drill

Every red mark
Feels a little like truth
Every sting says
He was here, he was here

Pre-Chorus

If I stay too clean
I start to fade
So I keep the ache
Like a wedding ring

Don’t say he’s gone
Don’t say move on
I need this hurt
To prove I’m real

Chorus

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than be forgot

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than go cold

Bridge

The mirror fogs over first.
I write his name with one finger.
I wipe it away.
The glass keeps steaming.
So I write it again.
The whole room is warm and white and quiet.
My hand is shaking.
I watch the letters blur.
I watch them come back.
I keep writing.
I keep erasing.
I keep writing.

Break

Oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than be forgot

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
And I still sing

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than go cold

Ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah
I’d rather burn
Than be alone

Outro

Steam on the tile
Door still swinging slow
I let it fade
But I won’t let go
