Preparing for the Ending

Preparing for the Ending lyrics

Intro

Just the guitar
And the hall light
Still on

Verse 1

Your shoes by the door
Still crooked like that
I should move them
But I don’t

I’m in the kitchen
Counting the hum
Of the fridge
Like it’s saying something

My phone says four
And I hate
That I checked it again
For nothing

You turned over once
Then settled right in
Like your body already knew
What my mind keeps refusing

Pre-Chorus

I keep making small plans
For a life that’s leaving
I keep hearing your breathing
Like it’s trying to save me

Chorus

you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending

Verse 2

I almost said it
Then swallowed the line
Like a coward
With clean hands

I wrote a voice note
And deleted the whole thing
Kept the timestamp
Like proof I was here

The kitchen light
Still burns down the hall
And I keep looking at it
Like it might answer me

You moved in your dream
And I got jealous
Of whatever place
You can go without me

Pre-Chorus

I keep making small plans
For a life that’s leaving
I keep hearing your breathing
Like it’s trying to save me

Chorus

you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending

Bridge

I know that look
When you’re already gone
But still inside the room
Being kind to my face

I don’t want a speech
I don’t want a scene
I just want this second
To stop being true

Chorus

you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
you fell asleep so peacefully
stayed awake preparing for the ending
