Lagi Buffering

Lagi Buffering lyrics

Verse 1

Tuesday, dryer number six is eating my last coin.
My aunt's face freezes mid-sentence, mouth in a little O.
Someone's holding the phone too close to the flowers.
I'm folding socks that don't even match, like it's my job.
Jakarta's already eating breakfast. I'm out of quarters.
It's already tomorrow where my grandmother is.

Pre-Chorus

The picture jumps, the voices drag.
I nod like I understand the lag.

Chorus

Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
Say it again, I missed the end.
I'm laughing at the frozen faces,
because crying needs a better signal.
Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
Lagi buffering, tunggu sebentar ya.

Verse 2

A lady asks if I'm okay, she's holding a basket.
I say it's the lint, it gets in my eyes.
She offers me half a stale biscuit. I take it.
My mother turns the camera, shows me the rows of chairs.
She mouths, "Sudah makan?" from the wrong side of the sea.
I hold up the biscuit. That counts, right?

Pre-Chorus

The picture jumps, the voices drag.
I fold a sock and call it brave.

Chorus

Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
Say it again, I missed the end.
I'm laughing at the frozen faces,
because crying needs a better signal.
Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
Lagi buffering, tunggu sebentar ya.

Bridge

The dryer buzzes, done, all warm.
I hold the socks against my chest a minute.
They don't match. Nobody's here to see.
Nenek used to say "pelan-pelan," sambal on her thumb.
Slowly, slowly. I'm still folding.

Chorus

Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
I'll catch the rest when it loads.
The call drops. Black glass, and my face still grinning.
I wave at it anyway.
Sorry, you're buffering, Nek.
Lagi buffering... tunggu aku ya.
