take me up

take me up lyrics

Intro

Marble staircase
Marble staircase
You saw me there

Verse 1

At the gala table
You wore that velvet jacket
Sipped your gold and smiled
Like you knew the ending

I crossed the marble
Counted every mirror
Hands too calm, too clean
For the room we made

Pre-Chorus

And I felt the floor tilt
When you turned my name
A little crack of silver
Running through my veins

If I fall, I fall
Where the chandeliers can see
If I call, you call
Or just let me be

Chorus

Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, hold me up
I can sing through the glass
I can burn and still stand
Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, don’t look down
When I split into light
You will hear me arrive

Verse 2

Your cufflink caught the candle
Like a blade in honey
I laughed at your old stories
Then I tasted trouble

Every guest was spinning
In a ring of perfume
But you stayed by the railing
Like a dare in black

Pre-Chorus

And the room went narrow
As your eyes said stay
I could feel my heart beat
Off the plate and away

If I break, I break
Like a vase in perfect hands
If I stay, I stay
For the thrill of where you stand

Chorus

Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, hold me up
I can sing through the glass
I can burn and still stand
Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, don’t look down
When I split into light
You will hear me arrive

Bridge

Keep your hand on the rail
I am not afraid
I was born for the height
And the hungry gaze

Say my name once
Let it ring, let it ring
I can climb this silence
I can make it sing

Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, hold me up
I can sing through the glass
I can burn and still stand
Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, don’t look down
When I split into light
You will hear me arrive

Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, hold me up
I am glitter and steel
I am here, I am here
Marble staircase, take me up
Marble staircase, don’t look down
When I split into light
You will hear me arrive
