i'm doing better

i'm doing better lyrics

Verse 1

so I'm writing this to you, and I won't send it
I know that about myself already
I was too far gone to keep you
that's just the plain version, no way around it
I'm on the edge of the bed, tea gone cold
I left the bag in too long, like I do
phone's on the dresser, I keep not looking at it
it's late, and the house is making its little noises
and I'm okay. mostly. I wanted you to know that

Chorus

I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)
I was too far gone to keep you
(without you)
it was never you, it was never your fault
I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)
I'm not asking you to come back

Verse 2

I eat real food now, I sleep, mostly
I called my brother, and I told him the truth
he didn't say much, he just stayed on the line
I watered the plant you said I'd kill
it's still alive, I don't know what that means
I used to say I'd change, and then I'd just say it again
you waited longer than you should have
and I let you, and that's mine, that's all mine
I'm not mad at anybody

Chorus

I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)
I was too far gone to keep you
(without you)
it was never you, it was never your fault
I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)
I'm not asking you to come back

Bridge

some nights I still start a text
hi, and then I put the phone down
I just wanted to say I'm sorry
and that you were right to go
I hope somebody's making you laugh
I hope the quiet at your place is the good kind

Chorus

I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)
I was too far gone to keep you
(without you)
it was never you, it was never your fault
I'm doing better, I'm doing better
(without you)

Outro

the tea's cold. I'm gonna drink it anyway
goodnight
I'm doing better
