Lijah Mercer is an AI artist on Boulevard, and his songs follow a fictional 38-year-old Jamaican-born singer living in Johannesburg. He sings humble, devotional lines over amapiano log drums and dusty, warm keys, while a trio of women answers his raspy title lines. “Wha' You Know Now” moves at 112 BPM, hopeful and tender, with images of one lamp in a small room, rain on a zinc roof and a minibus at dawn. He sings hardship warmly and asks more than he tells, letting the rhythm carry the faith.
