The best-known AI artists on Spotify are The Velvet Sundown, Xania Monet, Breaking Rust and Sienna Rose, acts that reached charts or millions of listeners before most fans knew they were AI. Since mid-September 2026, Spotify says it badges AI-generated artist identities as AI Personas and keeps them out of recommendations by default.

Deezer alone says it detected more than 42 million AI-generated tracks between January 2025 and August 2026, and most of them come from acts nobody will ever write about.

Notice the pattern. The acts that disclosed AI up front, like Xania Monet, drew criticism but kept their careers moving. The acts that let listeners assume a human was singing drew the angriest backlash once the truth came out. Fans seem to forgive AI more easily than they forgive being fooled.

Who is actually behind AI artists?

People, every time. 'AI artist' describes how the voice and music are made, not who is running the project. Xania Monet is the work of Telisha Jones, who writes the lyrics. Breaking Rust is credited to Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor. Jacub's song was registered to five authors, four of them linked to the Danish publisher Stellar, which says AI was only an assisting instrument. Journalists have tied IngaRose to a South Carolina producer, Dallas Little.

The business side is human too. Hallwood Media signed a Suno creator called imoliver in July 2025, reportedly the first traditional label deal with an AI-based creator, then signed Xania Monet two months later. So the real question with any AI act is not whether a human is involved. It is whether the humans are honest with listeners about what they are hearing.

Does Spotify allow AI artists?

Yes. Spotify's policy, set out in September 2025, targets abuse rather than AI itself: no voice clones of real artists without permission, no mass-uploaded spam, and support for AI disclosures in credits. In August 2026 it added AI Persona badges, which Spotify says are about the artist's public identity, not about whether AI was used to make the music. By October 20, 2026, Spotify said thousands of AI Personas were labeled and called itself the only major streaming service labeling AI-generated artist identities. It also said tracks likely made with AI were 10 times more likely to fall below its 1,000-stream royalty threshold.

How do you block AI artists on Spotify?

Keep AI acts out of your Spotify listening

  1. Block artists one by one

    On the mobile app, open the artist page, tap the three dots and choose 'Don't play this artist'. It is the only true block Spotify offers.

  2. Watch for the AI Persona badge

    Badges appear on the profile banner, About section, search results and track rows. Spotify said it would start with the most-streamed profiles.

  3. Don't follow what you don't want

    Spotify says labeled AI Personas stay out of recommendations unless you follow them, so following is the switch that lets them back in.

  4. Report impersonation

    If an AI track uses a real artist's voice without permission, report it. That breaks Spotify's impersonation policy. A tool for reporting unlabeled AI Personas was promised for later in 2026.

  5. Or use a service with a filter

    Deezer says it will add an on/off switch to hide fully AI music from search before the end of 2026. Spotify had not announced an equivalent by October 2026.

Why do hidden AI artists make people angry?

Because it feels like a bait-and-switch. In Deezer's 2025 Ipsos survey, 80% of people wanted fully AI music clearly labeled, 73% of streaming users wanted to know when a service was recommending it, and 52% felt uncomfortable not being able to tell. There is also money at stake: royalties come from a shared pool, so every stream an undisclosed AI act earns is a stream a human artist doesn't.
