I push first

I push first lyrics

Verse 1

it's sunday and the light's too good in here
you're buttering the toast clear to the edges
the way you do, like it matters
and I'm counting the days till the trip
the cabin I booked in march
the one I haven't told my sister about
I push you away first
because I'm scared I'm hard to love, and I know it
I rehearse it in the shower
I've got the whole speech, it's pretty good

Chorus

I push first
your coat's on the hook by the door
I push first
and I'm already checking the exits
I push first
you hum something, you don't know you're humming
I push first
before you get the chance to

Verse 2

you ask if I want the crust
I say I don't care, I care
I open the laptop under the table
the booking's right there, refundable
thank god for refundable
you're telling me about your mother's knee
and I'm nodding, I'm so good at nodding
I press cancel
your toast goes cold a little
I'm sorry, I'm not saying it

Chorus

I push first
your coat's on the hook by the door
I push first
and I'm already checking the exits
I push first
you hum something, you don't know you're humming
I push first
before you get the chance to

Bridge

you'd have been fine, probably
you'd have said let's go, and meant it
and that's the part I can't
that's the part
you look up and say what
and I say nothing, just the jam, can you pass the jam

Chorus

I push first
I push first
your coat's on the hook by the door
I push first
I push first
I'm already checking the exits
I push first
I push first
I push first
